It is important to be aware of the proper lighting and heating reptiles require to meet their environmental needs. The most popular reptiles for beginners are several species of lizards and snakes.
Lovely Lizards
Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragons, and Blue-tongued Skinks are all easily tamable lizards. Although each species has a different diet, all three of these lizards are entertaining and easy to keep healthy and happy. Leopard geckos are among the easiest reptiles to look after properly. They are quite docile and easy to handle with a gentle touch, and more than one can be kept in a fairly small tank.
Super Snakes
Snakes are beautiful, elegant animals and not as dangerous as Hollywood would have you think. Some have the advantage of needing to be fed only once a week or less and so can easily be left on their own for a few days without a pet sitter. Plus they’re great conversation starters when you meet people who haven’t yet discovered the joys of owning an exotic animal.
Fitting In
Because many exotic pets are compact and quiet (and don’t need to go for walks) they can be a good choice for apartment dwellers. Children are particularly fascinated by lizards (the closest thing a kid can have to owning a dragon), and with most reptiles you don’t have to worry about pet dander aggravating allergies.
