Keeping Fido Fancy

Looking One’s Doggy Best
Whether your pooch’s hair is long, short, curly, or straight, he’ll need a trip to the groomer every once in a while. Besides keeping their coats well-groomed, dogs also need a few other things to in the hygiene department.

Brush Brush Brush
Daily brushing is the best practice when it comes to keeping your dog’s coat in tip-top shape. It can also be an excellent way to bond with your dog. Brushing eliminates excess hair and prevents matted fur, which can be uncomfortable. Some breeds need more brushing than others, especially if they have longer coats. Pet Supermarket carries a complete line of brushes and grooming gloves for long and short-haired dogs. We also carry products to help keep excess fur off your couch and other furniture, supplements to keep your dog’s coat shiny and smooth, and detangling sprays to remove those pesky knots and mats. Our experienced associates can help you choose products that work best for you and your canine pal.

Keep Smiling
Clean teeth are very important. The first step in dental care for your dog is to help him learn to accept having his mouth and teeth examined. Start by examining your dog’s mouth briefly once or twice a week. Gradually work up to brushing his teeth a couple times per month or as needed. Pet Supermarket sells superior dental products such as toothbrushes and dental chew toys to meet your dog’s dental needs.

Manicures
Your dog will also need his nails trimmed on occasion. Our associates are happy to advise you on the proper technique to trim your dog’s nails. We offer a variety of nail trimmers and files to keep your dog’s paws in perfect shape.

Ears—Floppy or Perky
Regular ear care is one of the most overlooked areas of a dog’s health. Good ear care consists of a weekly inspection and, if necessary, a cleaning. Reward with treats during and after the cleaning to keep the experience positive.

The How-To’s of Ear Care
To examine your dog’s ear, hold the tip between your thumb and forefinger and gently roll it up so you can see the underside of the ear. If you notice any debris, you can wipe the inside of the ear with ear-cleaning pads, available at Pet Supermarket. If you notice any odor or wetness, you can use one of our ear-cleaning solutions to swab and treat the underside of the ear. Massage a small amount of cleaning solution to the area you wish to clean, and remember to dry the underside of the ear when finished.

It’s Bathtime!
Your dog will also need a bath from time to time, especially if he likes to play outdoors! We carry a wide selection of top quality, gentle shampoos that are safe for you and your dog. Be sure to have plenty of treats on hand during the bath to let him know he’s doing a good job!

At Pet Supermarket we carry a wide selection of top quality grooming supplies, and our experienced and helpful associates can answer any questions you have about keeping your dog well groomed and looking his best.
