Whether selecting a new doggie bed or a bag of treats, Pet Supermarket has what you and your dog need to make everyone happy:
Toys — Dogs love toys. They use their mouths to interact with their environment and need suitable chew toys, such as plastic or nylon bones and rope toys. Rawhides are recommended for dogs only under supervision. Does Fido like to fetch? We stock a variety of balls and squeaky toys to chase, stuffed plush toys to cuddle with, and puzzle toys to keep them busy.
Crates — Dogs like to have a “place,” kind of like the human version of a bedroom. Some dogs do just fine curled up next to the fireplace on a nice doggie bed, but others prefer specially designed crates with ample bedding where they can have some time to themselves. The best beds are either fully washable or have a washable and/or replaceable cover. The best crates are size-appropriate and can be folded up to move or travel with.
Training — If your dog hasn’t had any training or maybe forgot a few tricks along the way, our associates can offer advice and direct you to training supplies. Teaching the basics such as “sit,” “stay,” and “come” builds strong bonds between you and your dog and also provides mental stimulation to keep him from getting bored and too rambunctious! Training classes are also good places for your dog to socialize with other dogs and people. Positive re-enforcement with nutritious treats and loving praise is the preferred method for obtaining the best results.
Housebreaking — If your dog needs to learn where it is appropriate to do his “business,” we can help. Dogs should be taken out several times each day and rewarded when they go where you want them to. Punishing them if they do have an accident is not recommended and usually leads to other unwanted behavior. Positive re-enforcement of good behavior with a nutritious treat is key to a well potty-trained dog!
Leash and Collar — Time for a new leash or collar? We carry a variety of different leashes and collars in many styles and sizes. To choose the appropriate size collar for your dog, make sure you can fit two fingers snugly underneath the collar when fastened. Be sure to monitor your dog’s collar if he’s still growing. We also provide a variety of leashes, such as durable nylon or rugged leather!
Playtime/Socialization — Dogs are social animals, just like people. Make sure to provide time for play with other people and other dogs. Pick up one of our informative books on dog socialization, and head out to the doggie park with confidence!
