Sisal Scratching Posts

Cats naturally love to scratch, so choosing the right scratching post for kitty is important. Should you go with a post wrapped in sisal rope or carpet? Here are some tips to help you decide:

  • Sisal rope is made from a natural fiber that’s stronger than carpet, so some cats prefer this. Cats can really dig their claws into sisal, and it provides them with more resistance when they pull on it. The rough texture of sisal is great for helping cats shed loose claw shells, and they often enjoy the feel of it against their paw pads.
  • If you have a young kitten, a carpeted post might be the way to start. Kittens have more sensitive paws and claws than adult cats, so the softness of carpet may be more appealing to them. As they mature, you can consider switching them over to a sisal post.

If you still can’t decide, then why not try both?
